Yup, we all work together. And of course there are specialties. We have a wizard, a cleric, a weird guy, another weird guy, a monk, a really strong girl, and me. Sometimes we have a bird. And a cat.
[This is perfectly valid and real, she doesn't know why he's getting so suspicious about it. There are all sorts of groups of people who do all sorts of things, why not adventuring and slaying beasts?]
[ Maybe if she were better at explaining all of this instead of calling half her party 'that weird guy' it would all sound much better to him.
Instead he's left with a vague half-formed image in his head of a collection of creatures, all the same size as she—with maybe the exception of the cleric and strong girl. Those he can summon forth just fine, even if they look awfully like Lissa and Sully caricatures in his head. ]
Sometimes a bird and a cat? Can you truly count them as part of your group then? Shouldn't you rename yourselves to be the Mighty Seven?
Besides, the bird and cat are very important parts of the group. The bird is very good at stabbing corpses, and the cat's very good at cuddling with Caleb.
[She glares at him. She's not going to tell this jerk about Kiri. He doesn't deserve to know how wonderful she is. He's being terrible about her bird child!!
So she removes her mask and hisses at him, exposing her extremely sharp and extremely numerous fangs. It's not the smartest idea, but she's thinking with her heart right now.]
[ They are in fact at the bar but that's no excuse to just gab and then go?? ]
Now, wait just a moment—
[ But to no one's surprise she does not wait, and the bar's overflowing enough that her small figure's lost almost immediately. He could follow her in and demand she explain herself, but that would certainly lead to more trouble than it's worth.
So he sighs and turns back around. He'll find you another day, Nott. ]

[ Will he ever stop nitpicking, no. ]

[So no, they shouldn't.]
Besides, the bird and cat are very important parts of the group. The bird is very good at stabbing corpses, and the cat's very good at cuddling with Caleb.
[See? They all have important roles to play.]

[ Hang on just a minute there, never mind the cat cuddling part, what's this about a stabby bird? ]
Just what type of bird is this that you're traveling with?
[ And is it here in the city, is it going to start attacking random civilians? ]

I said corpses, don't be weird. She's only a child. We don't exactly take her into battle.
[Or anywhere, anymore.]

I fail to see how that's any better of a situation. What type of bird is this even, a vulture?
[ What other bird attacks dead bodies. ]

He lurches backwards a step, one hand shooting up in presumed self-defense. The teeth are very alarming and so is the unprompted (to him) hissing. ]
Wha—what are you?
[ Band of adventurers, his butt, they're probably a group of thieves. ]

[Nott promptly puts her mask back on, belatedly realizing what a dumb idea that was even despite the general nastiness about Kiri.
She backs away from Frederick, towards the bar, waving nervously.]
That's my cue! Bye! Thanks or whatever!
